Florida insurance, explained
Work out what you actually need, before anyone sells you anything
What the law requires, what each coverage actually does, four calculators that run in your browser, and the flood claims data for your own county. Free, sourced, and nobody here is selling you a policy.
- Four calculators, free, and nothing you type leaves your browser
- Every number sourced from FEMA and the Census, cited on the page
- Written in English, Spanish and Haitian Creole, not translated
Most people arrive here in one of these situations
Pick the one that sounds like you. Each page says what the law requires, what we do about it and how long it takes.
SR-22 and FR-44
The state told you to file proof of financial responsibility. Here is exactly what that is, which of the two forms applies to you, and how fast an agent can send it.

This is one of the most common questions in the Florida market, and most of the internet answers it badly. The honest version has three parts.

If you drive occasionally but own nothing to insure, this is the policy for you, and it is usually the least expensive way to satisfy a state filing.

Three different problems that arrive in the same envelope. Here is what each one actually does to your rate and how long it lasts.

Florida runs on rules that do not exist where you came from. Three of them cost money in the first month if nobody tells you.
Read more →Credit and your rate
People search for insurance with no credit check. The honest answer is that Florida allows credit-based insurance scoring, so there is no meaningful market that ignores it. The useful answer is that carriers weigh it very differently.

Personal, property and business lines across South Florida.
Auto insurance
PIP, real liability limits, SR-22 filings, and proof of insurance the same day.
Motorcycle insurance
Florida runs no PIP on a motorcycle, so the coverage list is a different one.
Boat and watercraft
Hull, liability, and the named storm clause that decides the claim.
Golf cart and low-speed vehicle
Not covered by your homeowners policy the moment it leaves your driveway.
RV and travel trailer
Full-timer liability, vacation coverage and the months it sits still.
Umbrella liability
A million dollars of liability for roughly what one dinner a month costs.
Scheduled valuables
Your homeowners policy caps jewellery theft far lower than you think.
Homeowners insurance
Wind, roof age, and the flood this policy does not cover, explained before you buy.
Condo insurance (HO-6)
Your unit, your contents, and the gap your association's master policy leaves you.
Renters insurance
The least expensive policy we sell, and the one that quietly pays out most often.
Flood insurance
Rising water, which no homeowners policy in the country covers.
Mobile and manufactured home
Underwritten almost entirely on the year, the anchoring and the roof.
Wind-only policies
When the storm coverage is a second policy, bought separately.
Citizens Property Insurance
The state-backed insurer of last resort, and the rules that come with it.
High-value homeowners
A different set of carriers, and a policy that starts from open perils.
Landlord and dwelling fire
The policy a rented-out house needs, which is not a homeowners policy.
Vacant and unoccupied property
Standard policies stop covering an empty house sooner than owners expect.
Short-term rental
A homeowners policy excludes the business you started when you listed it.
Screened enclosure and pool cage
The most commonly uncovered loss in Florida, and it is usually a choice.
Sinkhole coverage
Two different coverages, one mandatory and one optional, often confused.
Commercial auto
For vehicles that earn, with certificates of insurance issued the same day.
General liability
The contract decides the policy: limits, wording and additional insured status.
Business owners policy
Property, liability and lost income, with the wind deductible read out loud.
Workers compensation
Required sooner than most Florida owners think, and audited every year.
Commercial property
Your building, your stock and your income, with the storm clause read out loud.
Contractors liability
Written to satisfy the contract in your hand, wording included.
Garage and garagekeepers
For shops that hold customers' vehicles, which a normal policy will not cover.
Commercial umbrella
The extra millions a contract demands, above the policies you already carry.
Life insurance
Quoted term first, at the amount your household would actually need.
How this works
Find the situation you are in
SR-22, a takeout letter, a roof over fifteen years, a licence from another country. Each page says what the law actually requires and what to ask for.
Run the numbers yourself
Four calculators, free, no sign-up, and nothing you type leaves your browser. Walk into the conversation knowing the figure.
Then talk to somebody licensed
With the situation understood and the numbers in hand, a quote takes minutes instead of an afternoon, and you can tell a good answer from a fast one.
Four calculators, free, no sign-up
They run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere, including to us. Use them before you call, and call us with the number in front of you.
SR-22 and FR-44 checker
Two certificates, very different requirements, and the wrong guess costs a second filing fee and more delay. Answer three questions.
Wind mitigation credit estimator
Answer what you already know about your roof and your windows. If you do not know an item, choose the unknown option and the estimate will widen honestly rather than guess.
Hurricane deductible calculator
The percentage is designed to feel small. Put your dwelling limit in and look at the actual number you would pay before the policy pays anything.
Citizens takeout offer analyser
Two numbers decide whether this is your choice at all. Then there is a short list of things to check that has nothing to do with price.
What flood claims actually pay
Two arguments happen in every flood conversation: whether it is worth buying, and which deductible to take. This settles the second one with the claims that have already been paid in your county.
Where we work
One office in Hialeah, licensed statewide, and these are the places we actually know.
What we cannot do for you
The short list, because it saves everybody a phone call.
- We cannot promise the cheapest price in Florida. Anybody who does is guessing about a rate they have not run.
- We cannot rate a policy without talking to you. A number on a website that changes at bind is how trust gets lost.
- We cannot write a Citizens policy for you if a private carrier offers within 20% of the Citizens premium. That is the eligibility rule, not our preference.
- We cannot backdate anything, ever, for any reason.

Questions people actually ask
Do you charge a fee?
Nothing here costs anything, because there is nothing to buy. The calculators are free and send nothing anywhere. This site does not sell insurance.
Can you write my policy?
No. This site is not an insurance agency and is not licensed to sell, quote or bind coverage. What it does is explain what Florida requires and what moves your price, so that a quote from a licensed agent is something you can judge.
Where do your numbers come from?
FEMA's own flood claims and policy records, and the Census. Every figure on the site names its source and the date it was pulled, and the sources page lists all of them.
Do you sell my information?
The calculators collect nothing at all. The one form on this site asks for a name and a number so a licensed agent can call you back, and that list is not sold.
What if I already have a policy?
Read your declarations page against the situation that matches yours. The pages here say what each coverage does and what the law requires, which is usually enough to tell whether the policy you have is doing its job.
Work it out before anybody sells you anything
Four calculators that run in your browser, a page for every situation Florida puts people in, and the claims data for your own county. All of it free, and none of it behind a form. The form is for the other half of the job: when you have read enough and want a person on the phone.
Leave a name and a number. This site is not an agency and employs nobody who can sell you a policy; it passes your request to a licensed Florida agent, who calls you. No obligation, and no call from six companies you have never heard of.
Your request goes to a licensed Florida agent, who may call, text or email you about it. That agent does not work for this site.
